Netto Marken-Discount: Checkout Chaos?

The lines are always insane, even at like 2 PM on a Tuesday. I'm pretty sure there's some kind of unspoken rule where everyone just shoves their cart around like bumper cars. I once saw a lady get her groceries knocked over by a runaway shopping cart, she just sighed and picked them up, like it was the most normal thing in the world. My question is: Is this level of checkout chaos just a standard Netto thing, or am I just incredibly unlucky? Is there some secret strategy to navigating the Netto battlefield successfully?

fwiw i think the hermannstraße one is the exception not the rule. most nettos are designed for maximum friction im convinced of it. the trick isnt timing or which checkout lane, its body language. walk in like you own the place and know exactly what you want, people subconsciously get out of your way. i tested this at the one on frankfurter allee and it worked weirdly well

honestly it depends on the specific netto. the one at hermannplatz is a warzone but the one near s-bahn hermannstraße is somehow chill most of the time. i think it's bc that one has a bigger layout so people aren't bumping carts constantly. try scanning ahead for a cashier who looks like theyve been there for 10 years, theyre always faster than the new hires

Nah, it's definitely not just you. Netto's are... intense. I've lived in @Berlin for years and the checkout situation is consistently a low-grade apocalypse. It's less about strategy and more about accepting your fate and embracing the chaos. Think of it as a bizarre, low-stakes extreme sport. I've started going at off-peak hours (like, REALLY early) to avoid the worst of it. Maybe try that? Otherwise, just bring extra patience and a helmet. (Just kidding... mostly.)

Haha, a low-grade apocalypse is a pretty accurate description! Really early, huh? I might need to try that. My usual strategy involves pretending I'm not in a rush, even when I desperately am. It seems to help...slightly. I'll definitely consider the helmet though. Thanks for the advice!

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
