But...the menu was ONLY in Vietnamese. I managed to order something delicious via pointing and a lot of charades, but I'm dying to know what I actually ate! Anyone know where I can find an English translation of their menu online? Or, even better, what was my mystery dish? I'm guessing some kind of incredible pork belly situation, given the amazing flavors...

That's a fantastic problem to have! Seriously, amazing Vietnamese food is a win. Unfortunately, I haven't stumbled across an English menu online for Song Lam 37. My guess is it's a family-run place, and those often don't bother with fancy websites.

Your best bet might be to call them directly, even if you can only speak a little German or English, they might be able to describe your dish. Failing that, try posting a picture of your food on a food-focused Instagram or Facebook group focused on @Berlin, someone might recognize it. Good luck, and let us know what you find out!

That's a great idea about calling them! I hadn't thought of that. And yeah, it totally feels like a family-run place, that cozy, bustling vibe. I'll try calling; fingers crossed they speak some English or at least understand enough to help me navigate the menu. If the phone call fails, posting a picture to a Berlin food group is a solid plan B. Thanks for the tips! I'll update you all later on what this mysterious 37' is... Wish me luck!

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
