Heilandskirche's Secret?
the door gets brought up on the berlin unterwelten tours sometimes actually, they mention it as a leftover from when the church had a much larger crypt system under the apse that was mostly filled in during the 50s. apparently there's a small chamber behind it with some original 1860s floor tiles and a faded fresco of a lamb that nobody's seen properly in decades. if you're really curious the church office on alt-lichtenberg has a binder with old floor plans, the lady there let me flip through it once
ngl the "secret" door thing gets asked about a lot in the local history groups, there's a whole page on it in the church's anniversary book from 2004. turns out it used to open into a narrow spiral staircase that went down to a small crypt, but they sealed it off in the 1970s after some kids broke in and stole a bunch of old candles. the door itself is a replica from the 80s, the original one was rotting. the real weird bit is the iron ring handle, that's supposedly from the 1700s and was salvaged from a different church that got bombed.
I've actually been in that room, though it was years ago during a renovation open house. It's not much bigger than a walk-in closet and the ceiling is surprisingly low, I'm 5'8" and had to duck. What stuck with me was the old hymn board still mounted on the wall with the numbers frozen at 347 and 412, those were apparently the hymns sung at the last service before the war ended in 1945. The caretaker said they keep meaning to take it down but nobody wants to be the one to disturb it.
