Is it all industrial chic like the pictures suggest, or are there some seriously weird, hidden details? I'm hoping for weird. I thrive on weird. My last trip to Amsterdam involved an accidental canal tour in a stolen gondola (don't ask), so I'm looking to up the ante with this Berlin stay. Any off-the-beaten-path info would be appreciated. I'm thinking hidden staircases, secret bars...the works.

the weinmeister is more design hotel than secret labyrinth tbh. the vibe is dark corridors, purple lighting, glass bathrooms in the middle of the room, that kind of thing. if u want actual weird, skip the hotel hunt and go to the Weinmeisterstrasse u-bahn area at night, or hit Monster Ronson's Ichiban Karaoke on Warschauer Str, private booths & cheap beer, way more memorable than any hidden staircase

Since you're already staying in Mitte and want the actual weird, take the U8 one stop to Rosenthaler Platz and walk up Brunnenstrasse. Around number 10 there's a stretch of buildings where you can still see the old GDR-era shop signs faded into the facades above the new cafes, and one doorway near the corner has a small brass plaque for a "Haus des Kindes" that almost nobody notices. It's not a secret bar, but that kind of half-erased history is what makes this city genuinely strange in a way a design hotel never will be.

If you're after actual hidden details, the Weinmeister's rooftop bar is the one people miss. It's small, gets packed after 9, and the glass elevator ride up is part of the experience. For weird on a different level, head to Madame Claude in Kreuzberg on Lübbener Strasse, it's a former brothel turned bar where the furniture is literally nailed to the ceiling. Berlin weird tends to live in bars and clubs, not hotel corridors, so budget your nights accordingly.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
