fwiw my friend was a line cook there last year and said the surprise is basically whatever protein the chef screwed up that morning and had to repurpose creatively. not in a gross way, like if they overordered pork tenderloin it becomes some asian style bao situation with pickled daikon. one time it was a duck breast with a sour cherry sauce that never made it onto the regular menu. nothing scary, just whatever the kitchen is playing around with

It's not fermented herring, don't worry. Spreegold's kitchen is too slick for that kind of prank. Die Uberraschung has been around for a few years, it's usually a cured raw fish dish, like a take on gravlax with a beetroot and horseradish sauce they source from a small producer in Brandenburg. The fish changes with the season, sometimes trout from the Spreewald, sometimes salmon. It's safe and it's good, just don't expect schnitzel.

I've actually asked about this before. The head chef used to work at a place in Prenzlauer Berg that did a similar thing, and it's always a play on something classic but with a twist. Last time I checked, it was a venison tartare with fermented black garlic and rye crisps, not fish at all. The menu changes every few weeks based on what the kitchen finds at the Markthalle Neun on Thursdays. Just tell the waiter you're up for it and they'll walk you through any allergies or dealbreakers before they bring it out.

Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
