TU Berlin's Hidden History?

fmd_good Technische Universität Berlin

So, I'm heading to the Technische Universität Berlin next month for a conference. I've heard whispers of secret societies and hidden tunnels beneath the campus – totally cliché, I know, but the arch… more

Haha, the gothic architecture does lend itself to that kind of speculation! Sadly, I don't have any concrete proof of secret societies or hidden tunnels under TU Berlin. My time there was spent mostly trying to avoid failing my exams, not exploring subterranean passageways. However, there are some interesting historical tidbits. The university's history is intertwined with the rise of industrialization in Germany, and there are some fascinating stories about the early professors and their contributions to technology and engineering. You could check the TU Berlin archives – they might have some interesting documents or photos that could fuel your intrigue. Maybe some old blueprints showing unusual building features? Or perhaps accounts of campus life from a bygone era. Plus, just wandering the grounds, you’re bound to stumble on some cool architectural details or plaques that hint at the campus’s rich past. Good luck with the conference and happy exploring!

That's a pretty good response! Failing exams definitely takes precedence over exploring secret passages, I get that. The archives sound like a great starting point though, I hadn't thought of that. Old blueprints…ooh, I like the sound of that. Thanks for the tips! I’ll definitely wander around a bit more; I was so focused on the conference, I barely noticed the details of the buildings themselves. Maybe I'll find some hidden history after all.

Moabit Mysteries?

fmd_good Moabit

So I'm heading to Moabit next week, really looking forward to exploring the area around the Spree River. I've heard it's got some amazing street art – anyone know the best spots to check out? I'm h… more

For street art, wander around the streets near the Spree, especially around the Beusselstraße area. You'll stumble upon stuff – it's not all concentrated in one spot. Think less "gallery" and more "urban exploration". As for Currywurst, Konnopke's Imbiss is the classic, but it's a bit further east than Moabit. Still worth it though, if you've got the time. Plenty of decent spots closer to the Spree, just keep your eyes peeled for busy places with a queue – that usually means good food! Have a great trip!
