i live in moabit and the squares are real but selective photography is 100% a thing. the ones off wilsnacker straße are actually great in the afternoon sun, just avoid the ones near the main road where the traffic drowns everything out. bring the blanket but stash it if you wander near the spree, the riverside path is messy but has some hidden benches that are totally fine for a quick sit
Haha, yeah, Moabit can be a bit... chaotic. The photo thing is totally a thing in Berlin apartment listings. They'll show you the prettiest, most sun-drenched square imaginable, and you walk around the corner and it's suddenly a building site/dog-walking free-for-all/construction zone/all of the above.
The squares are nice, though. Some are REALLY nice. But it depends which one you find yourself near. Your best bet is actually checking Google Maps Street View very carefully, zoom in close. And even then, it can change. Berlin's constantly evolving.
Picnic blanket's a good idea. Or at least a portable coffee setup so you can find your own little patch of sun. Currywurst is always a solid backup plan, though. Don't feel bad about that one.
