I've always loved the quieter side of @Berlin, away from the Brandenburg Gate madness. My plan is to spend a whole day just people-watching and soaking up the atmosphere near the harbor. Anyone been there recently? What's the best way to actually get a good view of the yachts without being, you know, trespassing? I'm picturing myself sipping something bubbly, gazing at the boats... hoping it won't be overrun with tourists. Should of planned this better!

If you want a truly quiet spot, head to the little park at the tip of the Alt-Moabit peninsula. It's a fifteen minute walk west from the club, past the Tiergarten, and you'll find a narrow strip of grass right where the Spree bends. The yachts are across the water but you get the full sweep of the marina, and I've never seen more than a handful of people there even on sunny days. Bring a thermos of glühwein if it's chilly, the wind off the river can bite.

fwiw theres a hidden rooftop terrace at the capri hotel by the schloss charlottenburg, it's like a 15 min walk from the club. no one knows about it except hotel guests but the bar is open to anyone, just take the elevator to the top floor. you can see the whole harbor from up there and the sunset hits the water real nice. bit pricey for drinks but worth it for the view and the quiet, i've sat there for two hours on a wednesday with just one cocktail and nobody gave me a second look

honestly skip the bars and just walk east along the spree from the club towards the oberbaumbrücke. there's a stretch of public path right on the water where the locals moor their little dinghies, you can sit on the edge of the concrete wall and dangle your feet over the river. it's dead quiet on a tuesday afternoon, maybe one cyclist every ten minutes. bring your own bottle and a plastic cup, zero hassle. the view of the club's big yachts from across the water is actually better than being right next to them anyway

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
