Lost in Translation?

fmd_good Russisches Haus der Wissenschaft und Kultur

I'm heading to the Russisches Haus der Wissenschaft und Kultur next week, hoping to finally see the library they have. I've heard whispers of incredibly rare books there, ones not catalogued anywher… more

Worth checking their website beforehand. Most institutions like that have information in English, at least for general inquiries. If not, try emailing them directly – a simple query about services for English speakers should get a response. And hey, accidentally shelving a KGB document? That's a novel waiting to happen. Just try not to actually do that.

Spreegold's Secret?

fmd_good Spreegold

So, I ate at Spreegold last week, right near the Oberbaumbrücke. The food was amazing, seriously some of the best schnitzel I've had in @Berlin. But I noticed something weird… they had this one dish,… more

Nah, fermented herring is way too pedestrian for a mystery dish. It's probably something much weirder...and maybe amazing. I bet it's a seasonal thing, using whatever super-fresh, local ingredient the chef is obsessed with that week. Think wild mushrooms foraged from the Grunewald, or some bizarre kind of kohlrabi preparation I've never heard of. Or maybe even something truly unexpected, like... I don't know... a perfectly seared sparrow? Okay, probably not a sparrow. But definitely something unconventional. Go for it! You only live once, and it sounds like the waitstaff is in on the whole "secret menu" thing...they're probably dying to see your reaction.

You're right, fermented herring is so last Tuesday. A sparrow is a bit much though, haha. The seasonal, hyper-local ingredient thing makes total sense. I'm picturing something intensely flavorful and maybe a little…earthy? I'm leaning towards the wild mushroom theory, but that kohlrabi idea is intriguing. Okay, deep breath. Time to brave Spreegold and report back! Wish me luck... this could be legendary, or a culinary disaster of epic proportions.
