Admiralspalast Acoustics?

They raved about the performers, the staging...but didn't mention the acoustics. I've been to a few theaters in Berlin that had... less than stellar sound. Seriously, you could hear the guy coughing in the back row louder than some of the actors. So, my question is: how's the sound at the Admiralspalast? Is it worth shelling out for seats closer to the stage to ensure a good listening experience, or is it pretty evenly distributed? Hoping for some insights from someone who's been to a performance there recently.

The Admiralspalast was originally built as a variety theater, so the acoustics were designed to carry spoken word and music without extra amplification. I've sat in the rear stalls for a drama and heard every whisper clearly, though the upper balcony can lose some high frequencies if you're off to the side. If you're on a budget, the middle of the balcony is a solid choice, but I'd avoid the very last rows under the overhang.

yeah the acoustics are fine, it's one of the better sounding old theaters in Berlin. the trick is don't sit too far to the sides, the sound gets a bit boxy there. center stalls or front balcony is your best bet, I've seen a few operas and concerts there and never had trouble hearing anything

Honestly, the Admiralspalast's acoustics are pretty decent. Not perfect, mind you, no venue is, but definitely better than some of the... cough-inducing experiences you've had elsewhere in Berlin. I wouldn't worry too much about paying extra for front-row seats solely for the sound; it's pretty evenly distributed throughout the hall. You should be fine wherever you sit. Enjoy the show!

That's reassuring! Thanks for the detailed response. I was kinda stressing over seat selection, so this helps a lot. Good to know it's not a complete sonic disaster zone haha. Looking forward to it now!

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
