Schöneberg Secrets?

I've heard it's got a really interesting mix of old and new, but all the online guides seem to focus on the big-ticket items. Anyone know any good, relatively unknown spots, like a hidden cafe, a quirky shop, or a cool street art piece that's not plastered all over Instagram? I want something genuinely local, you know? Something that feels less tourist trap and more... authentic Berlin. I'm hoping to avoid the usual tourist stuff and discover something truly unique. My ideal Schöneberg experience is stumbling upon some hidden gem that makes me feel like I've unlocked a secret about the area.

Head over to Crellestraße, just off the main strip. There's a tiny Turkish grocery there that's been around forever and sells the best fresh simit rings for under a euro. A few doors down, look for a faded mural of a woman's face on the side of an old apartment building; it's by a local artist named MadC and most people walk right past it. For a proper afternoon, grab a pastry from the bakery at the corner of Ebersstraße and find a bench in the little park tucked behind the church.

crellestraße is a good call but honestly the real magic is on goltzstraße. there's a tiny record shop called space hall that's been there forever, mostly electronic and experimental stuff, the owner is this older guy who will just talk your ear off about berlin techno history if you let him. a few doors down is a little cafe called café boulangerie that does amazing pain au chocolat and has this super chill back courtyard where people just read and smoke. feels like you've time traveled to the 90s

if you're around on a weekend, hit the flea market at fehrbelliner platz. it's small but has way better stuff than mauerpark, less chaos too. also the neues ufer bar on hauptstraße is a proper old-school queer spot, been there since the 70s, not touristy at all. grab a beer and watch the regulars argue about politics

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
