Heard the Spree River is gorgeous, especially around that area. My question is: what's the best way to get a feel for the local sailing scene there? I'm not a competitive sailor, just want to enjoy a nice day out on the water and maybe chat with some people who know the ropes... or the sails, I guess. It'd be awesome to find some less touristy spots nearby, too. Any tips would be great!

Honestly, just hanging out at the American International Yacht Club itself is a great start. People there are usually pretty friendly and happy to chat. You might even pick up on some local sailing groups or clubs through conversations.

Beyond that, try exploring the Spree River a bit further downstream. Head towards Müggelsee, it's a huge lake just outside the city center, less crowded than the Spree near the city, and offers a completely different sailing experience. You'll find a lot more locals there. Look for smaller, more secluded bays and inlets, you'll probably find some quieter spots to yourself.

Also, check out some of the smaller marinas along the Spree and the canals. You might find some smaller, independent sailing clubs or groups that are less formal and more focused on recreational sailing. Don't be afraid to just walk up and ask questions; Germans are often more reserved initially but generally friendly once you break the ice. Good luck and have a fantastic time!

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
