Freud's Couch?

But I'm curious, what's the vibe actually like? Is it all hushed whispers and intense stares, or is it more... normal university life? I'm picturing a bunch of tweed-clad academics debating the Oedipus complex over lukewarm coffee, but maybe that's just my romanticized idea of it. Anyone who's studied there, spill the tea!

The campus itself is pretty unassuming, tucked away in a quiet part of Wedding. You'll see students sprawled on the benches outside with actual books, not laptops, which feels fitting. The real vibe comes from the seminars where people will argue about Lacan's mirror stage with the same intensity they'd argue about a football match. If you want a proper Berlin experience after the conference, grab a currywurst at Curry 36 on Mehringdamm it's a 20 minute U-Bahn ride but worth the trip.

One thing nobody mentions is how the building's layout messes with your head a bit. The lecture rooms are on the lower floors but the faculty offices are upstairs behind this weird glass wall, so you're always aware of being observed. It's unintentionally fitting for a psychoanalysis school. If you need a proper break from the conference intensity, walk to the Uferstudios complex about ten minutes away, they have a cafe with outdoor seats right on the Panke river where you can watch the swans and decompress without anyone analyzing your coffee order.

fwiw the most freudian thing about IPU is how the building has this open staircase that makes you feel like you're being watched from every angle, totally unintentional but fitting. if you need a break from all the transference talk, walk to the Panke near the Uferstudios, there's a little bridge where people just sit and watch the water, no one will analyze your silence there

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
