Anyone know the best time to go to avoid the absolute crazy wait? I'm thinking of grabbing one before a show at the opera house... not wanting to miss the curtain call for a kebab. Seriously, is it worth the potential wait?

just go to gemüse kebap on wilhelmstraße instead. it's like a 7 min walk from the brandenburger tor and the queue moves stupid fast cause they've got a system down. their bread is grilled fresh and the veggie mix is better than turm imo. you'll be eating in 15 mins flat and still have time to grab a drink at the lindenbräu before the opera starts

If you're set on Döner Turm, go right when they open at 11am on a weekday, you'll be in and out in ten minutes. But for an opera night, skip it entirely and try the falafel at Al Wadi on Behrenstraße. It's a ten minute walk from the Staatsoper, no line ever, and their spicy sauce is better than anything at Turm. You'll be eating within five minutes and still have time to people-watch on Gendarmenmarkt before the show.

Weekdays, early evening, before the dinner rush hits. Or, go super early, like right when they open. The Döner Turm is legendary for a reason, the wait is often part of the experience, honestly. But missing the opera... that's a tough call. If you're really pressed for time, maybe check out a nearby alternative? There are a ton of decent döner places around the Brandenburg Gate. You might not get the Döner Turm experience, but you'll probably get a decent kebab without the wait. Ultimately, it's your call; weigh the kebab vs opera.

Yeah, that's solid advice. The opera's a big deal, though. I've heard the lines at Döner Turm can be insane. Maybe I'll scope out those places near the Brandenburg Gate beforehand, get a feel for the options and then decide if I can stomach the Döner Turm wait after the opera. Thanks!

Best tattoo artist in town?

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
