The pasta was amazing, seriously. But I couldn't help noticing a lot of the staff seemed...stressed. Like, seriously stressed. They were running around like headless chickens, even when it wasn't super busy. Is this always the case, or was I just unlucky? I'd hate to think the incredible food comes at the cost of employee well-being. Maybe I should've tipped more... Anyway, totally recommend the cacio e pepe!

honestly i think you just caught them on a bad night, this place can be hit or miss with the vibe depending on the shift. the lunch crowd is way more chill if you go around 2pm, way less frantic and the staff actually have time to chat about the wine list. also fyi the cacio e pepe is great but try the gnocchi next time, it's a sleeper hit and they make it fresh daily.

huh that's interesting, i've been a regular there for like two years and never really noticed the staff being that stressed. maybe it's a timing thing? i always go for the late seating around 8:30 on weekdays and they're super chill, even joking around with each other. the head chef is a real character, you can sometimes hear him cracking jokes from the kitchen. also the amatriciana is criminally underrated, way better than the cacio e pepe imo, and the panna cotta is legit the best in the city

fwiw i think it's a known thing in the neighborhood, the place has been running on a skeleton crew since last summer when their sous chef left for that new spot on auguststraße. the food is still top tier but you can feel the tension in the air, especially near the open kitchen. if you want the same quality without the stress, try roma e roma on oberbaumstraße, it's family run and the staff actually seem happy to be there. their cacio e pepe is just as good and the owner will prob pour you a free limoncello

Best tattoo artist in town?

arrow_drop_up 67 arrow_drop_down

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
