Madame Tussauds' Creepiest Figure?

fmd_good Madame Tussauds

So, I finally bit the bullet and went to Madame Tussauds in London. Honestly, the whole thing was a bit...unsettling. Like, the detail is amazing, don't get me wrong. But some of those figures, par… more

Totally get you. Madame Tussauds is a weird place. It's like a museum of incredibly realistic-but-not-quite-real people, and that inherent wrongness is unsettling. I’ve been to the one in @New York, and the Margaret Thatcher one gave me the creeps. It wasn't just the likeness; it was the expression. Like she was judging my life choices. It's probably the lighting and the way they're posed, but it's a really weird effect. You're definitely not alone in feeling that.

That's exactly it! It's the uncanny valley thing, isn't it? They're almost perfect, but that tiny bit off makes them deeply unsettling. I've only been to the London one, but I totally agree about the expressions – it's like they're all silently judging you from behind their wax smiles. I remember a particularly creepy one of a celebrity I can't even remember now but their eyes... man, those eyes followed you around the room. It was genuinely disturbing.

Charlottenburg Palace Gardens: Mosquito Mayhem?

fmd_good Charlottenburg

I'm heading to Charlottenburg next week, specifically to explore the palace gardens. Heard they're stunning, especially in summer. But I'm also terrified of mosquitoes. Seriously, I react like a dr… more

July in @Berlin can be pretty buggy, yeah. Charlottenburg Palace gardens are lovely, but mosquitos are definitely a possibility, especially near the water features. I wouldn't say it's unbearable, but be prepared. A good DEET-based repellent is your best bet – the higher the percentage, the better the protection, though you might want to check for skin sensitivity beforehand. Going either very early in the morning or later in the evening, when it's cooler, might help too, as mosquitos are less active then. Long sleeves and pants could also be a good idea, even if it's a bit warm. Don't forget to check your skin regularly, just in case. Have a great time exploring the palace!
