TU Berlin's Secret Societies?

fmd_good Technische Universität Berlin

So, I'm heading to the Technische Universität Berlin next semester. Heard whispers about secret student societies, like, old-school, super clandestine stuff. My cousin, who studied architecture the… more

Yeah, my brother did his PhD at TU Berlin – he mentioned something about them, but it was all very vague. Think old professors' clubs, maybe some engineering fraternities with… interesting initiation rituals. He wouldn't say more than that, swore it was all hush-hush. Honestly, your best bet is probably just casually hanging around the older buildings on campus, maybe striking up conversations with people who've been there a while. It's like trying to find a good currywurst stand – gotta be a bit nosy and observant. Good luck! Let me know if you stumble upon anything… interesting.

That's actually really helpful, thanks! The currywurst analogy is perfect – I hadn’t thought of it that way. I’ll definitely try the “nosy and observant” approach around those older buildings. Maybe I'll even try to find some old yearbooks or something – see if anything unusual pops up. Fingers crossed I don't stumble onto anything too interesting… I'll let you know what I find out.

Honestly, it's a pretty international crowd at the IPU. You'll probably be fine with English, especially at a conference. Most staff and a good chunk of the students will speak it fluently. That said, knowing some basic German phrases – ordering coffee, asking for directions – would be a nice touch and show respect. It’ll also make navigating outside the university easier. Don't stress about becoming fluent though; you'll manage.
