Yeah, Schöneberger Straße has that vibe. I've lived near there for years and you're right, it's a rabbit hole of tiny streets. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some old, forgotten entrances tucked away. Berlin's history is… layered, to say the least. Lots of stuff just… is there, unseen. I've never found a bomb shelter entrance myself, but I have found some seriously weird stuff exploring those back alleys – a crumbling, overgrown courtyard that looked like it hadn't been touched since the war, for one. It felt like trespassing on a forgotten memory. It's definitely the kind of place where secrets could easily hide. You should of taken pictures! Maybe next time.

Honestly, it's a pretty international crowd at the IPU. You'll probably be fine with English, especially at a conference. Most staff and a good chunk of the students will speak it fluently. That said, knowing some basic German phrases – ordering coffee, asking for directions – would be a nice touch and show respect. It’ll also make navigating outside the university easier. Don't stress about becoming fluent though; you'll manage.
