Total rollercoaster. One minute our waiter was practically singing our praises, the next he was nowhere to be found. Anyone else have a similar experience? Was it just a bad night, or is that just...the Peking Ente way?

The service there has always been a bit of a gamble, that's true. I've had nights where they're pouring your wine before you even ask, and other times I've had to practically lasso someone for the bill. I think the kitchen runs so tight that the floor staff sometimes just get lost in the shuffle, especially when it's packed with tourists heading to the Brandenburg Gate. If you want a calmer version of that same crispy duck, try their location in Charlottenburg, the service is a bit more steady there, though the room feels less theatrical. The food's the same, which is really what you're paying for anyway.

it's the peking ente way for sure, the brandenburg gate one runs on tourist chaos. my move is to sit at the counter facing the duck oven, you get the show and the waiters pass by constantly to check the birds, so they actually notice if ur glass is empty. also the spätkauf across the street sells those tiny plum wines, grab one before u sit down, it's a way better pairing than their overpriced house stuff. the service never gets better, just pick ur poison.

ngl the duck is worth the chaos, but here's the thing nobody mentions: the service is fine if you just don't sit in the main room. the back corner by the kitchen door, the waiters actually stop there to grab plates so they're always nearby. i've done that twice now and it's like a different restaurant. also tip cash on the first drink, they remember that way faster than card. if you want zero stress though, the warschauer straße spot is calmer but the duck's not quite as crispy, the brandenburg kitchen has a hotter oven or something.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
