Been hearing whispers about this "secret" spot locals love, tucked away from the usual tourist traps. Apparently, there's a legendary swan population, anyone know the best time of day to catch them doing their graceful swan thing? Seriously considering a picnic and some serious bird-watching. Hoping to avoid the hordes, though, heard it can get busy on weekends. Got my binoculars ready...

Weekdays are your friend here, but if you can only do a weekend, aim for Sunday around 9am. The Saturday crowd sleeps in and the church crowd hasn't filtered over yet. The swans tend to cluster near the little bridge on the west side of the lake that time of morning, right where the water lilies start. Grab a spot on the bench there and you'll have a solid hour before the families with screaming kids show up.

the north side path is where the real show happens around 6pm, not the main lake. the swans glide over from the reeds right as the light gets golden, makes for some serious photo ops if you're into that. just keep your voice down, they're skittish if you get too close. bring a blanket for the grass near the bench with the peeling green paint, it's the only dry spot after noon

Early mornings, before the crowds arrive, are your best bet. Think sunrise-ish. The swans are usually pretty active then, feeding and preening. Weekdays are quieter too, naturally. Pack your picnic, grab your binoculars, and prepare for some seriously majestic swan action. Good luck!

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
