Charlottenburg Palace Ghosts?

My grandma always told me stories about it, said the old Prussian royalty still haunts the place, especially the New Wing. She swore she saw a lady in white once during a visit years ago! Anyone else experienced anything...unusual? I'm really curious about the alleged paranormal activity there and whether there's any truth to the local legends. Is it all just old wives' tales, or is there something more to it? I'm bringing a ghost hunting kit, just in case...

ngl your grandma's story is legit, the lady in white is def tied to sophie charlotte but i've heard it's actually her handmaiden who died in the new wing, not the queen herself. the real creepy spot is the goldene galerie around sunset when the mirrors catch weird reflections, i used to sneak in there during off-hours when i worked events at the palace. if you're bringing a ghost kit, the basement under the neuer flügel is where the old servants quarters are, totally closed off but you can feel cold drafts near the grate on the west side. just be careful with security, they've got motion sensors in the restricted areas from when someone tried to film a ghost documentary a few years back

Your grandma's not alone with that story. The lady in white is practically a Charlottenburg institution at this point, I've heard it from at least three different tour guides over the years. If you're serious about the ghost hunting kit, skip the New Wing during peak hours and head to the Old Palace instead, specifically the Oak Gallery around 4pm when the light shifts and the floorboards start creaking on their own. The real trick is getting past the security guards who patrol the Spandau Damm side, they're pretty sharp about people lingering too long near the closed-off sections.

That cold spot in the Porcelain Cabinet is the most consistent thing I've heard from staff too. One of the night guards told me once that the temperature readings there are always a few degrees lower than the rest of the palace, even in summer when the heating's off. The real issue with ghost hunting at Charlottenburg is the light pollution from Spandauer Damm, it bleeds through the windows and kills any chance of seeing something in the dark. Try the garden side around 10pm when the streetlights dim a bit, that's when the shadows actually have some depth.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
