Like, faded photos on the walls, some looked old, some looked...recently added? And the music, a weird mix of old Greek stuff and some modern German pop. It felt like two completely different restaurants mashed together. Anyone else ever notice that? Or am I just hallucinating from too much ouzo?

i think you stumbled into one of the weirdest family dynamics in neukölln honestly. the older guy with the mustache is the uncle who opened it in '86, the younger guy running the floor is his nephew who studied in hannover. they've been fighting over the playlist since 2015, uncle wants traditional rebetiko, nephew wants radio hits. i actually like it, feels like eavesdropping on a family argument that's been going on for decades.

try the saganaki with the honey drizzle and ask for the "special" orange cake if they have it, it's not on the menu but the nephew's wife makes it on weekends. just don't ask about the photos, nobody will give you a straight answer

honestly the playlist war is the best part of the place. i went last month and caught them mid argument about whether to put on some rembetiko or that one mark forster song that was everywhere in 2019. the uncle just walked away mid sentence and cranked the volume on an old bouzouki recording. the nephew didn't even flinch, just kept serving drinks

if you want the full experience sit at the bar on a saturday around 9pm when the older crowd rolls in. the whole place shifts energy and the food gets even better somehow. their dolmades are underrated, way better than the avg tourist spot on weserstraße

The photos are definitely from two different eras. I live a few blocks away and I remember when the current owner took over around 2015, he kept all the old framed stuff from his uncle who ran it in the 80s. The newer ones are from his own trips back to Crete. If you go on a Thursday evening you'll catch the older Greek regulars at the bar arguing about football, it's a whole other layer to the experience. Try the grilled octopus next time, it's consistently better than the moussaka in my opinion.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
