Cancun Eats

I'm looking for authentic Mexican food, the kind locals eat, not just the stuff they serve up to tourists on the beach. Any recommendations for restaurants that aren't completely overpriced and cater more to the locals? I don't mind venturing a bit outside the main tourist zones to find the real deal. One place I'm specifically curious about is that place people keep raving about which they call El Mercado 23. It's supposed to be a great spot for some seriously tasty street food. I want to know if it's as good as they say!

El Mercado 23 is legit. Seriously good street food, and yeah, it's busy, but for good reason. Go early. Avoid the midday tourist rush.

For more sit-down, authentic stuff, try heading inland a bit. The tourist areas are obviously inflated. Ask your hotel or Airbnb host for recommendations, they'll likely know places locals frequent. Don't be afraid to just wander around neighborhoods away from the beach; you'll stumble upon some gems. Look for smaller, family-run places, those are usually the best bets for flavorful, non-touristy food. And don't be shy to try something you've never heard of! That's part of the fun.

That's awesome, thanks! El Mercado 23 sounds perfect for a quick, delicious lunch. I'll definitely aim to go early. Good tip about avoiding the midday crush. I hadn't thought about venturing inland for more authentic spots, that makes total sense. My Airbnb host is super friendly, so I'll definitely ask them for recommendations. Exploring the neighborhoods sounds fun, too; I'm all for discovering some hidden surprises. Trying something new is half the adventure, right? I'm really excited now!

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
