My wallet felt the same level of organic depletion as my body felt after a week of ramen. Seriously, I almost had a panic attack trying to choose between the kale and the slightly less extortionate-priced broccoli. Is it always this expensive, or did I just hit the wrong aisle? Maybe I should've just stuck to the ramen. It's cheaper and significantly less stressful.

You hit the premium tier on your first try. Bio Company is like the Apple Store of organic groceries, nice to look at but painful to buy from. If you want solid organic without the heart palpitations, Denns Biomarkt is usually a bit cheaper and Alnatura is the budget-friendly chain that still counts as legit organic. For produce specifically, hit up the Turkish market on Maybachufer on a Tuesday or Friday afternoon, that's when they start dropping prices and you'll walk away with a week's worth of veggies for what Bio Company charges for two bell peppers.

honestly bio company is the whole foods of berlin, it's a vibe not a grocery strategy. hit up a turkish market like the one on maybachufer or any gemuse stand in neukolln, the produce is usually organic-ish and half the price. aldi and lidl also have decent bio basics now for way less markup, their organic milk is like 1 euro vs 3 at bio company.

have u tried the bio section at your local rewe? it's not as flashy as bio company but their own brand stuff is usually fine and way cheaper. i do most of my shopping there and only hit up the fancy stores for stuff i absolutely can't find elsewhere

Best tattoo artist in town?

arrow_drop_up 67 arrow_drop_down

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
