Seriously, I could practically taste the lamb already. Anyway, I'm trying to decide between the classic döner and this weird-looking "Inferno" one they have on the menu. It's got some kind of super-spicy sauce and jalapeños... I'm a pretty big fan of spice, but I also value my ability to taste things tomorrow. Should I go for the inferno or play it safe? My stomach's rumbling like crazy, I'm getting hangry!...

i think the move here is to get the classic but ask for the inferno sauce on the side. most places near kottbusser tor will do that for free. that way you can control how much heat you want and still have a proper döner if the sauce is too much. the inferno is usually just a marketing thing anyway, the classic bread and meat combo is what keeps people coming back

grab the inferno but pace yourself. the heat usually comes from isot pepper paste, not ghost pepper nonsense, so it builds slow. most berlin places balance it with yogurt or a sweeter tomato sauce underneath so you get layers not just pain. worst case you chug a ayran and it cancels out

Get the classic. The inferno sauce is usually just a generic hot sauce they buy in bulk from the Turkish grocery on Sonnenallee, not something they make in-house. Most Berlin döner places have a much better homemade chili flake mix you can ask for on the side anyway, and it'll let you actually taste the meat they're known for.

Best tattoo artist in town?

arrow_drop_up 67 arrow_drop_down

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
