Crazy Checkout Lines?

The place is buzzing, typical Friday night. Found everything I needed, even managed to snag the last pack of those weird chocolate pretzels... but then, the checkout. OH MY GOD. The queue snaked around three aisles. I swear I saw a family of badgers forming a support group at the end of it. Seriously, what's the deal with the checkout lines at these places? Are they intentionally designed to test the patience of shoppers? I almost abandoned my cart and went to get döner kebab instead. Worth it? Maybe. But still curious.

honestly the trick is to check which register has the cashier who looks like they've given up on life, those are the ones who move fast. the new ones are always too slow scanning stuff. also if you're near the netto at hermannplatz the self checkout is usually open and way faster, just gotta deal with the machine yelling at you in german every 2 seconds

real talk, the netto on sonnenallee is a different beast entirely, but the one near warschauer is somehow worse because tourists clog the aisles trying to figure out pfand. if you ever get stuck in that line again, just walk to the lidl across the street, same currywurst price and they always have four registers open. also those chocolate pretzels are mid tbh, the ones at edeka are way better

the real trick is going to the späti instead if it's after 10, they always have currywurst and you skip the supermarket chaos entirely. netto on a friday night is basically a gladiator arena, especially the one on sonnenallee. i'd rather wait 5 minutes at a späti than 20 in that line just to get yelled at by the self-checkout machine in bavarian

Best tattoo artist in town?

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
