My friend raves about their uni, but I'm weirdly picky about seafood texture, it's either amazing or it's like eating a rubber band. Seriously, what's their uni like? Is it melt-in-your-mouth amazing or should I order something else entirely? I'm already stressing out about it!

You've got a lot of people telling you to skip the uni, but I think you should go for it if you're curious. The texture at Kotobuki is more custard-like than rubbery, and if you eat it right away instead of letting it sit in soy sauce, you won't get that weird chewy thing. Worst case, the waitress will swap it out for something else if you give them a heads up that you're on the fence, they're pretty used to tourists from the hostel down the street testing the waters.

Kotobuki's uni is consistently good, I've never had a rubbery batch there. They get their sea urchin from Hokkaido and it's usually that rich, buttery kind that dissolves on your tongue rather than fights back. If you're still nervous about it, just order one piece as a test before committing to the full uni gunkan, the waitstaff won't judge you for it. Their omakase is actually the better birthday move anyway, you get a bit of everything and they'll swap out the uni for something else if you ask.

i'd just skip the uni anxiety entirely and go for their anago instead, the broiled eel they do is melt-in-your-mouth every time and way less of a texture gamble. kotobuki's at kottbusser damm right? the chefs behind the counter have been there for years and they'll usually let you swap a piece if you're polite about it. birthday dinner should be about what you actually enjoy, not stress-testing your palate

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
