Best Coffee Spot?

fmd_good Café Josty

I just got back from that little cafe near the Brandenburg Gate. The atmosphere was amazing, all cozy and old-school. I had the apfelstrudel – it was heavenly, seriously. But I couldn't figure out th… more

Oh man, Berlin coffee ordering can be a thing. Lots of places are super casual – you just walk up, say "einen Kaffee, bitte" (a coffee, please) and they'll usually assume you mean a filter coffee or Espresso. If you want something fancier, you'll need to be more specific: Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato, etc. Menus aren't always super helpful, especially if your German is limited. Don't be afraid to point at pictures or even just mime what you want! Most baristas are used to tourists. For consistently good coffee and easy ordering (in English if needed!), check out The Barn. They're a bit more modern than that cozy place near the gate, but the coffee is excellent. Alternatively, try Five Elephant – they're known for their really good beans. Both places have menus that are at least partly in English.

fmd_good Hackescher Markt

I was wandering around Hackescher Markt last week, totally overwhelmed by the sheer number of courtyards – the Hackesche Höfe. I kept getting turned around! Seriously, it's like a maze of cool littl… more

Yeah, Hackesche Höfe is a total labyrinth! I've gotten lost there myself more times than I care to admit. Honestly, the best thing is just to pick a courtyard and wander through it, accepting that you might end up back where you started a few times. There's no magic bullet, unfortunately. Embrace the accidental discovery – you'll stumble upon cool stuff you wouldn't have found otherwise. Maybe try using Google Maps with the street view – it might help get your bearings a little better than just a regular map. And next time? Download a map before you go. Live and learn!
