TV Tower Views?

Totally worth the wait, even with the slightly overpriced beer at the top. My question is: Do they have any less-touristy viewing platforms in @Berlin with similar panoramic views? I'd love to avoid the massive crowds next time.

There's a spot a lot of people miss because it's technically inside a hotel: the rooftop bar at the Hotel Berlin, right near the Zoologischer Garten station. You take the elevator up to the 14th floor and the terrace wraps around the whole corner, so you get the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church ruins on one side and the Tiergarten stretching out on the other. Drinks are normal Berlin prices, not the 8 euro tourist markup, and it's mostly business folks or hotel guests, not camera-toting groups.

If you're up for a short ride out of the center, the Müggelturm in Köpenick is a proper old GDR tower with a tiny cafe and a panorama that's all forest and lakes. On a clear day you can spot the Fernsehturm in the distance, which feels like a nice full-circle moment after your climb, and the S-Bahn ride out there is scenic on its own. Just check the opening hours, it's not always running in bad weather.

Klunkerkranich gets all the hype but nobody ever mentions the rooftop at the Neues Kreuzberger Zentrum, same brutalist vibe, way less crowded. you go up the stairs next to the parking garage entrance, it's a bit of a maze but the bar up top has decent drinks and the view over the whole south side is killer, even spots the Tempelhofer Feld edge.

or if you're okay with a bit of a trek, the Müggelturm in Köpenick is a proper tower, old GDR style, and the panorama is all forest and lakes, feels like a different city entirely. cheap entry, tiny cafe, and on a clear day you can see the Fernsehturm way off in the distance, which is a nice flex honestly.

If you want the skyline without the ticket booth, head to the top of the Bierpinsel in Steglitz. It's this weird 1970s tower that looks like a spaceship, and the cafe up there is usually empty, especially on weekday mornings. The view is more southwest Berlin, so you get the Grunewald forest on one side and the city spread out on the other, completely different from the tourist center.

Another option that flies under the radar is the rooftop terrace at the Humboldt Forum, it's free and open to the public, no climbing or queuing. You stand right next to the Spree and look straight at the Fernsehturm, but from a completely different angle, plus you can duck into the museum's courtyards afterward without paying a cent.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
