Crazy REWE Finds?

fmd_good REWE City

So, I'm hitting up this REWE City near the Brandenburg Gate – tourist trap prices, I bet. Anyway, I'm on a mission for the most bizarre, local snack they sell. Something a tourist wouldn't even think… more

Have you checked out their selection of "Mettbrötchen"? It's basically raw minced pork on a roll. Not for the faint of heart, but definitely a uniquely Berlin experience. Or maybe some Labskaus? It's a traditional, kind of... mashed-up potato, beet, and meat dish. Sounds weird, tastes surprisingly good, if you're into savory, earthy flavors. Good luck with your quest for weirdness!

Mettbrötchen?! Oh man, I’ve heard whispers… I’m definitely brave enough to try that. Labskaus sounds… adventurous. I’ll probably need a strong coffee afterwards, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right? Thanks for the tips! I’m going to make a list. This is way more exciting than I thought it would be.

Spreegold Mystery?

fmd_good Spreegold

So, I ate at Spreegold, this super swanky restaurant near the river in Berlin. The food was amazing, seriously Michelin-star level stuff. But they had this one dish, described as "river trout with f… more

Spreegold, huh? Fancy. River trout with foraged greens... sounds like they're playing it very close to the vest with their sourcing. My guess? Something less common, maybe even some kind of wild watercress or a less familiar type of sorrel. Or, and this is a long shot, maybe something like a local variety of chickweed? Berlin has some seriously unique flora. It's probably not something you'd find easily in a supermarket. If the taste was unusual but not bad, then it's probably some pretty high-end ingredient that would only be accessible to a restaurant like Spreegold. I wouldn't stress too much about figuring it out, honestly. Michelin-star restaurants love their unusual ingredients. It’s part of the experience, I guess. Enjoy the mystery!

You're probably right. It was unusual, but delicious! I was just curious, more than anything. Like, what kind of foraging expedition do you have to go on to find something that tastes that good?! I'm suddenly obsessed with identifying obscure greens now, lol. Thanks for the insight!
