Berlin's Art Scene Overload?

But I'm worried about information overload! There's so much going on, so many exhibitions, performances, installations... I'll barely have time to actually do the workshop. How do people manage to keep up with it all? Is there some secret, underground art calendar only the locals know about? Or is it just a beautiful, chaotic mess that you just have to embrace?

just pick a couple nights and commit, don't try to do everything. the udk has this thing called "rundgang" twice a year where all the student studios open up but outside of that their website has a "veranstaltungen" page that's updated every monday with exact times and locations. also the mensa at udk on hardenbergstraße has a literal wall of flyers near the cash register, take a photo of whatever catches your eye and ignore the rest. you'll prob end up at some basement show in neukölln anyway and that's fine, the best stuff is never on a calendar

yeah the info overload is real but honestly the trick is to not treat it like a museum itinerary. the student scene runs on spontaneity, like you'll be at a workshop and someone'll be like "hey we're doing a sound installation in a basement off warschauer straße tonight" and that's your whole evening. if you want something structured, the udk website has a "veranstaltungen" page that lists their student exhibitions, usually updated every monday. but the real move is to hit the closing party of whatever show you find, that's where the actual networking and weird performances happen, not during the vernissage itself

the trick is to not try and keep up. the university workshops themselves are usually tied into openings at places like udK or weißensee, they'll have flyers for student-run stuff. check the schinkenkarte at any cafe near torstraße, that's the real local list for gallery openings and diy spaces. pick one night, maybe thursday when most openings happen, and just walk auguststraße or brunnenstraße. you'll see more than enough without planning anything
