The sheer number of vintage shops was overwhelming! I ended up buying a ridiculously oversized, probably-worthless, velvet painting of a dachshund wearing a monocle. My question is: Are there any local legends or urban myths associated with this street? I'm convinced that dachshund is judging me...

The tailor ghost story is cute but the real Storkower Straße secret is the abandoned tennis club behind the old factory building at number 97. Locals call it the "Zitterplatz" because the courts still have this eerie bounce to them even though nobody's played there since the 80s. Kids used to dare each other to spend a night there and claim they heard rackets swinging in the dark. Might be worth a detour before your dachshund painting starts giving you actual nightmares.

There's a story about a woman who used to walk her three Great Danes down Storkower Straße every evening at exactly 7pm, always wearing the same red coat. She died maybe ten years ago, but people still do a double take when they see someone in a red coat with big dogs around dusk. Probably just coincidence, but the old-timers at the Späti on the corner will tell you she's still making her rounds. Your dachshund might be trying to warn you about the competition.

oh man, the real weirdness is the old GDR-era "Kinderkaufhaus" that used to be further down. it's been empty forever but sometimes at night you can see a single light on in the top floor. old timers say it was a caretaker who never left, just lives there quietly. prob nothing but adds a creepy layer when you're walking past with a judgemental dachshund

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
