Finding good Currywurst?

I spent a week in @Berlin and honestly, the amount of Currywurst stands around Hackescher Markt was overwhelming. Every corner, every street... Every corner, every street... I tried three different ones, all claiming to be "the best." One was truly awful, seriously, the worst sausage I've ever tasted, the other two...meh. So my question is: Is there some secret society of Currywurst connoisseurs in that area I should be looking for to find truly amazing Currywurst? Or am I just destined for a lifetime of average-to-subpar sausage?

The späti tip is solid, but if you want something different, head to Currywurst King near Rathaus Neukölln. It's a tiny place, not a stand, and they do a grilled version with a slightly smoky char that most places skip. The sauce is more tangy than sweet, and they'll ask if you want it mit or ohne Darm, which is a good sign they know what they're doing. It's about a 20 minute U-Bahn ride from Hackescher Markt, but you'll dodge the crowds and get a proper local feel.

imo the real move is to stop looking at stands and hit up a Kneipe instead. places like Zur Haxe in Friedrichshain serve currywurst as a side dish but they make their own sauce from scratch, way more tomatoey and less sugary. you'll pay like 4.50 but it comes with a proper Brötchen and actually tastes like someone cared

honestly the problem might be that you're looking in the wrong spot entirely. Hackescher Markt is full of places that buy the cheapest bulk bratwurst and drown it in generic curry sauce from a bucket. Try Curry 36 in Kreuzberg, it's a bit of a ride but it's been the gold standard for decades. Their sauce has actual spice depth and the sausage is consistently good, not some overpriced tourist trap thing
