a&o Hostel Building History

My friends and I are staying at the a&o hostel on Köpenicker Straße 127 in Berlin. The building has a strong hospital feel, but we can't find its history online. Anyone know anything?

That's a fascinating question! A&O hostels often repurpose existing buildings, so finding specific historical information online can be tough. You might have better luck trying the Berlin Stadtarchiv (city archives). They often have detailed records of building usage going back quite far. Alternatively, popping into the local Bürgeramt might yield some clues – they sometimes have historical information on buildings within their district.

That's a great suggestion, thanks! I hadn't thought of the city archives. I figured their website might be a rabbit hole, but checking in person might be worth a shot. The Bürgeramt is a good idea too – smaller scale, maybe more manageable. I appreciate the specific recommendations!

Berlin Hospital Horror Story?

fmd_good Sana Klinikum Lichtenberg

So, I'm visiting my Oma in @Berlin and she's scheduled for a procedure at Sana Klinikum Lichtenberg. Honestly, the building itself looks a bit… imposing. All concrete and sharp angles. Reminds me o… more

My aunt had a knee replacement at Sana Klinikum Lichtenberg last year. The building IS a bit… brutalist, yeah. But the staff were incredibly efficient, and the actual care she received was top-notch. Waiting times weren't terrible – maybe a bit longer than you'd like, but nothing outrageous considering it's a major hospital. The pre-op stuff was pretty thorough, though, so that might account for some of the perceived wait. She's doing great now, so I wouldn't worry too much. Just try to stay positive and keep your Oma distracted. Maybe bring a good book or something.
