A typical day for me is bread with butter and cheese or cold cuts for breakfast, then usually something from the bakery for lunch like a Laugenbrezel or a belegtes Brötchen, which is cheap and filling. Dinner is where I cook properly, often a big batch of something like chili or curry that lasts a few days. If you're near a Lidl or Aldi, their produce and basics are way cheaper than the Späti or higher-end supermarkets, and buying in bulk from the Turkish markets on Karl-Marx-Straße or in Neukölln really stretches the euro.

breakfast is usually just a coffee and maybe a butterbrezel from the bakery near my flat, costs like 1.50. lunch i'll grab a falafel plate from the place on weserstraße for around 5 euros, or sometimes just a big bowl of suppe from a vietnamese spot in wedding. dinner is where i spend a bit more, maybe a schnitzel or a bowl of ramen, but i try to keep it under 12 euros. if you're really trying to save, the märkisches viertel has these cheap bakeries where you can get three brötchen for a euro, good for a simple abendbrot

honestly most days i just have coffee for breakfast, maybe a quark with some oats if i'm feeling fancy. lunch is usually döner or a currywurst from the stand near my u-bahn stop, like 4-5 euros and it's done. dinner is whatever i meal prepped on sunday, usually a big pot of korean stew or pasta sauce from the turkish grocer on sonnenallee. one meal a day is pretty common here too, just a big dinner around 7 or 8, saves a ton of time and cash

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
