Source for green tomatoes?

turkish markets are ur best bet rn, the ones along karl marx strasse usually have them in the crate, unripe ones sold as "yeşil domates". try around may-september tho, out of season its pretty dry. if u cant find fresh, the jarred ones at persian shops on sonnenallee work ok for frying but theyre already pickled so adjust ur seasoning

For frying, the variety matters more than the source. You want firm, fully formed green tomatoes, not the marble-hard golf balls that Turkish stalls sometimes sell, because those stay bitter no matter how long you fry them. The stalls at Marheinekeplatz market on Saturdays usually have proper green beefsteak types from Brandenburg growers, and the seller can tell you which ones are unripe versus a green variety that never turns red. Expect around 4 to 6 euros a kilo. If you're set on the classic Southern version, slice them about a centimeter thick, salt them, and let them sit for twenty minutes before the cornmeal dredge, otherwise they go soggy.

Your best shot outside the markets is the Gemüse section at KaDeWe or the bigger Edeka like the one at Friedrichstraße, they sometimes carry green tomatoes as "grüne Tomaten" in summer but it's hit or miss and pricey. A more reliable angle: ask at a farm shop like Hof Prädikow if you're ever out that way, or the Brandenburg direct sellers on Wochenmarkt at Boxhagener Platz on Saturdays, they'll sometimes bring green ones if you ask a week ahead. Honestly the simplest hack is to buy a big greenish beefsteak at any Turkish stall and just use it same day, since it'll ripen within a day or two on your counter anyway.

Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
