Danke :)

Hey, my girlfriend is from Ukraine and had to fell to Germany in 2022. Lately she mentioned that she felt increasingly lonely and that she misses being in contact with other people from her cultural background.

Do you by chance know of any Ukrainian clubs / meet-ups where we could go? Clubs foe college students would be best but I'm thankful for every suggestion. Tips for Ukrainian restaurants, museums and other places in connection with Ukrainian culture are very welcome as well. Thank you :)

honestly the best place i've found for that vibe is the ukrainian film club at b-ware! ladenkino in friedrichshain. they do screenings every couple weeks with ukrainian movies and there's always a big crowd hanging out after to talk. it's super casual and very student-heavy since it's in the backyard of a squat basically

also if she just wants to overhear ukrainian and feel at home, try the cafe at oyoun cultural center on laskerstraße. they have a ukrainian breakfast thing on saturdays sometimes with homemade syrniki and stuff. not a club per se but the crowd is mixed and very welcoming

for a more chill meetup, the "ukrainian berlin" telegram group has spontaneous gatherings in parks when the weather's nice. last summer they did a picnic at volkspark friedrichshain near the märchenbrunnen. just show up with a blanket and someone will share their horilka with u

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
