I'm looking for recommendations and insights on the sailing clubs around Müggelsee in Berlin. There seem to be a few options, but I'd love to know more about how they differ in terms of atmosphere and focus. Are some clubs more geared towards competitive sailing or younger sailors, while others are more laid-back or family-oriented? And, are there any that lean more posh or have a stronger social scene?

Any tips on what makes each club unique or who might fit best where would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

yeah no one's mentioned the actual sailing conditions yet so here goes. the Müggelsee gets super crowded on weekends with ferries and SUP rentals, but the real trick is that the wind is super unreliable close to shore because of all the trees around the lake. you'll want to get out toward the middle where it picks up, especially in the afternoon when thermal winds start. if you're new to the area, the channel connecting to the Dämeritzsee is a nice escape when the main lake is chaos, way more peaceful and the wind is steadier there imo

fwiw i think people overlook the food situation at these clubs. VSG has a proper kitchen and does these weekend grills that are pretty solid, like bratwurst and potato salad for like 5 euros. SG Müggelsee just has a snack vending machine and coffee from a thermos, which is fine if you're just there to sail but not great if you want to hang out after. the Segelclub Rahnsdorf has this old guy who sometimes brings homemade cake on sundays but it's not consistent.

also worth knowing that none of these clubs have showers that are great. VSG's are the cleanest but the water temp is a roll of the dice. just something to keep in mind if you're planning to change there after a session.

honestly the vibe difference between these clubs is pretty real. i've spent most of my time at VSG and it's true about the terrace being nice, but what nobody mentions is that SG Müggelsee has a way better junior program if you're looking to get into racing. they've got these old 420s that are beat up but sail fine.

if you want the chillest option try Segelclub Friedrichshagen, it's a bit further down the shore and way less crowded than Rahnsdorf. their bar is open later on weekends too which is nice for the social side. none of them are particularly fancy though, you're not gonna find champagne bars or anything like that out here.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
