Lost my wallet abroad. My Niederlassungserlaubnis is also gone along with my bank cards and health insurance card. How do I go about replacing residence permit and health insurance cards?

As the distance from Stockholm Central to my hotel was only 1.5 km, I decided to walk. Grabbed a meal along the way at a restaurant and went straight to hotel after that. At the hotel check-in I was asked to show ID and after checking my bag I realized that my wallet was missing. I checked-in with my passport and went straight back to the restaurant I ate my meal at. The staff was super kind and showed me the cc tv footage that showed that I placed my wallet in my bag and zipped it closed. So, I came back to the hotel and turned my bag inside out and it's not there. Jacket, jeans checked everything and it's not there. The only explanation is that someone nicked it off my bag between the restaurant and the hotel which is 750m. It's unlikely but only possible explanation.

I'm here to ask for help- I can replace my bank cards and use Apple wallet for the time being but what's the process of getting issued a new residence permit card and also the health insurance card. Do I need to file a police complaint in this situation? Thanks in advance!

yeah you def need to file a police report in Stockholm first, even if it feels pointless. you'll need that for the embassy and for your insurance claims later. the german embassy in Stockholm can issue a temporary replacement document for the Niederlassungserlaubnis so you can travel back, but the actual card replacement has to happen at the Burgeramt in Berlin once you're home. for the health insurance card, just call your Krankenkasse and they'll mail you a new one to your German address, but they'll prob want the police report number too.

one thing nobody's mentioned yet - call the ausländerbehörde in berlin as soon as you can, even from stockholm. they might let you book a termin for a replacement card when you're back, and sometimes they accept a digital copy of the police report. the fiktionsbescheinigung is usually faster if you need to prove status while waiting for the new card, but that's a temp solution. for tk or aok you can just download a digital version of your health card from their app, that works as proof until the physical one arrives

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
