Hi!

I am a bit confused by the information in regards to keeping a cat. From what I have read a landlord cannot ban you from keeping a pet since 2013, but all the information I find on this is very mixed.

I live in a regular unfurnished apartment and I have lived in my apartment for 6 years now, and there are at least 5 dogs in the building. I dont know if anyone has cats, as they are harder to see. I initially signed with one company, and the apartment complex was bought by a different one since which seem to have a bad reputation which is making me reluctant to be in touch with them. My contract states that for having pets you need the permission of the landlord, but for "Kleintier" no permission is needed so long as the amount is below the limit.

My question is. do cats count as a kleintier or are they categorized with dogs? If I am required to ask permission, what is the best way to go about it, should I already mention and point to my Haftplichtversicherung for potential damages etc?

If anyone has any experience with this I would love to hear about it!

Thank you!

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
