your friend should check out the fine dining spots near gendarmenmarkt or the charlottenburg area, places with michelin stars often hire english-speaking chefs since the clientele is international too. the trade-off is those kitchens expect high precision and long hours, not ideal if they're still learning the ropes. for a lower stress entry, the hostel kitchens around alexanderplatz or mitte sometimes take english speakers for cook positions, pay is around 13-14 euro an hour but it gets them a foot in the door.

yeah it's possible but it depends on the place. higher end kitchens in mitte or prenzlauer berg often have international crews where english is the working language, think places like nobelhart & schmutzig or some of the hotel kitchens near zoologischer garten. but for a head chef or sous role it'll be tough without german since you're managing a team that probably speaks it. tell your friend to look at spots in kreuzberg or neukölln that are more casual or foreign-owned, and maybe start as a commis or line cook first to get a feel for it

honestly fine dining is one route but your friend could also look at catering companies, a lot of them hire english speakers for events at the messe or tempelhof, the pay is decent and you don't deal with the same restaurant stress. the other angle is hotel breakfast buffets, places like the michelberger or 25hours hotels have kitchens where english is common, it's not glamorous but it's steady work and they can learn german on the job. for higher positions though, they'll need to prove themselves first, most head chefs here expect you to speak kitchen german for ordering and managing the brigade

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
