What's the best movie hall in Berlin? A hall that offers a large screen with Dolby Atmos sound?

For comparison, in Munich, I have experienced Dolby Cinema (name of the hall) at Mathäser, which offers Dolby Vision for display and Dolby Atmos for audio. It also has a large sitting capacity to offer.

Is Zoo palast "Kino 1" comparable? What about UCI Luxe ? (iSense, IMAX, Screen X ?) Or is there any other option that is better ? Cinemaxx? Cineplex?

You are right to focus on iSense at UCI Luxe Mercedes Platz. That is the only room in Berlin that matches what you had in Munich, with dual 4K laser and actual Dolby Atmos ceiling speakers. The Zoo Palast Kino 1 is a landmark and the curved screen is impressive, but the sound is not Atmos and the projection is single laser, not dual.

One thing nobody mentioned is the Cineplex in the Alhambra on Seestraße. Their Saal 1 has Dolby Atmos and a decently large screen, and it is usually less crowded than UCI Luxe on weekends. But the seats are standard stadium style, not the electric recliners you get at UCI.

For pure screen size, the IMAX at UCI is a bit of a letdown. It is a smaller digital IMAX, not the full 70mm or GT laser. The iSense room actually has a bigger image than the IMAX there.

Screen X is a waste of money. You sit in the middle and the side walls are just projected filler that does not line up properly. Stick to iSense for your visit.

The iSense at UCI Luxe is the closest you'll get to that Mathäser experience, no question. But if you want something that actually feels like an event, the Astor Film Lounge in Charlottenburg has a smaller, pricier setup with leather recliners and a seriously crisp 4K laser projection, though it's not Atmos. For sheer scale and that classic cinema feel, Zoo Palast Kino 1 is still impressive with its curved screen, but the sound system is dated and you'll notice it during action scenes. Skip Screen X entirely, it's a distraction. The Cineplex in Alhambra has a decent Atmos room but the seats are cramped compared to UCI.

If you're coming from the Dolby Cinema at Mathäser, you'll want to manage expectations a bit. Zoo Palast Kino 1 is a beautiful, old-school flagship screen with a massive curved scope wall and a good Barco projector, but it doesn't have Dolby Vision or proper Dolby Atmos. The sound is fine but it's not the same immersive ceiling-speaker experience.

For the closest thing to what you're used to, head to the UCI Luxe at Mercedes Platz. Their iSense screen is their top-tier offering, with dual 4K laser projection and a real Dolby Atmos setup. It's not branded as a Dolby Cinema, but the specs are essentially the same. The IMAX there is a standard digital one, not the full-size 70mm or dual-laser GT, so the iSense room is actually better for picture and sound quality.

Screen X is a gimmick for a specific movie, not an everyday best-picture choice. The Cinemaxx at Potsdamer Platz has a big screen in Saal 1 but the sound is noticeably weaker than the UCI Luxe. If you want that proper Atmos bubble and a huge, sharp image, the iSense room at UCI Luxe is your best bet in Berlin.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
