Best clubs/events in Berlin?

honestly for that weekend i'd skip the typical club queues and hit up golden gate near schlesisches tor. it's tiny, grimy, open all weekend and the door policy is way more chill than the big places. they play mostly techno but it's a proper locals spot, you'll meet people smoking out front and the bartenders don't mess around. drinks are cheap too, like 3 euro for a beer

for something completely different, check out the finnish church in friedrichshain. they do a sauna on friday nights, 7 euro entry and you can just sit in the heat drinking beer with strangers. it's not a club but it's definitely not touristy and you'll get a weird authentic berlin moment

if you want a bar crawl without the tourist crowds, start at hopfen & malz in boxhagener platz. it's a proper old man kneipe with huge beers and no pretension, then wander down to the tiny bars on revaler strasse. the croatian guy will probably find the balkan connection funny at some of those spots but honestly the best nights are just walking between spätis and following the music

That weekend is actually perfect for Berlin Alternative Bike Ride if you're into cycling and weird city culture. It's a free group ride that starts at Mariannenplatz in Kreuzberg on Saturday around 2pm, usually 50-100 people on all kinds of bikes and they stop at squats, street art spots, and hidden clubs. You don't need to be a cyclist, just show up with a bike or rent one from a nearby shop.

For nights out, check what's on at ://about blank in Friedrichshain or Renate further east. They're not as tourist-heavy as Berghain but still proper Berlin club nights. If you want something weirder, go to Mensch Meier on a Thursday or Friday for their free parties in a former factory courtyard, cash only and the Späti next door sells cheap beer.

One thing that's easy to miss is the tiny bar scene in Neukölln around Weserstraße. Try Luzia for a packed but friendly vibe or Ä Bar for something more relaxed with decent cocktails under 10 euro. The Croatian guy might appreciate that a few of the Balkan bars in the area play turbo-folk on weekends, it's a specific vibe but entertaining.

yeah for non-touristy stuff, check out the klubsterben scene in leipzig or dresden if you can swing a day trip, but staying in berlin, hit up the späti on warschauer straße for a cheap beer then wander into the old factory buildings around there. the clubs in those are hit or miss but the vibe is pure berlin chaos

Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
