How long does it take to get a Verpflichtungserklärung in Berlin?

As they have made the system online now how much time does it usually take and is there any way to make the process faster? As they have made the system online now how much time does it usually take and is there any way to make the process faster?

honestly it's a bit of a lottery depending on which Bezirk you're in. i did mine in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and the online system gave me an appointment about 10 days out, but a friend in Neukölln waited nearly 5 weeks. one thing that helped me was checking the portal early in the morning, like 7am, when they sometimes release cancelled slots. also make sure your landlord has signed the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung properly, that's the thing that trips people up most

The online system has definitely sped things up, but "fast" is relative here. If your documents are all in order and you submit during a less busy period, you might get an appointment within two to three weeks. To move it along, make sure you upload everything as a single PDF per the instructions, and double check that your proof of income and rental contract are clear and current. Some people have had luck emailing the Bürgeramt directly to ask about earlier slots, but that's hit or miss.

I'd say plan for at least 2 to 4 weeks, but it really swings. One trick is to apply for the Verpflichtungserklärung at the Burgeramt in the district where you work rather than where you live, if that's possible, since some offices process those faster.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
