Anyone know of any fun events / pop-ups happening leading up to the Berlin Marathon this weekend?

Just wondering if anyone knows of any "Berlin traditions" regarding fun events or activities before the marathon takes place? Just wondering if anyone knows of any "Berlin traditions" regarding fun events or activities before the marathon takes place?

The marathon expo at the old Tegel airport is worth checking out even if you're not running. It runs through Saturday and has a lot of free samples and gear demos. Also, on Friday evening there's a traditional "marathon mass" at the St. Hedwig's Cathedral if you want something more low key.

there's a really nice tradition at the brandenburg gate on saturday afternoon where locals just gather to cheer on runners doing their final shakeout runs. it's not an official event but you'll see people with signs and cowbells. also if you're near alexanderplatz on friday, the starbucks there does a free coffee for anyone wearing a marathon bib which is a nice little perk

honestly the best pre-marathon tradition is the "runners night" at the sports bars in prenzlauer berg on saturday. schönhauser allee has a bunch of places that stay open late with carb-heavy specials and non-alcoholic drinks. the vibe is super chill and everyone's just hyping each other up. also check out the marathon-themed graffiti mural that pops up each year on the mauerpark flea market wall, it's a fun photo op

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
