Berlin, the city where I was raised, is no longer 'arm aber sexy', its become unaffordable to move out of my parents apartment, its become snobby like west germany and anything wild and spunky that made the city so cool is now part of historical exhibitions. As a wild, ungovernable Artist, where in the World(!) can i move to that's affordable and not excruciatingly dull, or what else can I do? I am sick of what the social climate has become since the pandemic and ever escalating wars, I feel like my home town is no longer the safe cool haven for poor artists that I grew up in. I do not accept the fact im supposed to spend more than half of a full time minimum wage for renting a single room.

have u looked at the whole ruhr area? dortmund, duisburg, bochum. people sleep on it bc its "ugly" but thats exactly why a 2 room flat is still like 350 warm & nobody gentrifies a place next to a steel plant. the scene is scattered but real, lots of off spaces in old industrial halls, and you can still get a studio for nothing. downside is the job market is grim & the vibe is more punk than art school, but tbh thats closer to old berlin than what kreuzberg is now

Leipzig gets thrown around a lot but the window there is closing fast, Plagwitz is already what Neukölln was ten years ago. If you want the actual cheap version of the old Berlin feeling, look at Halle, Chemnitz, or smaller stuff like Görlitz, where you can still get a whole Altbau flat for under 400 warm. The tradeoff is real though, the art scene is thin and you'll be taking the Mitteldeutsche Regio a lot. Honestly though, before uprooting, check whether you qualify for a WBS and look at Genossenschaften in Spandau or Reinickendorf, some of them still have reasonable Einstiegsgeld and they don't care that you're an artist.

Barcelona has a decent scene if you don't mind the Catalan.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
