Hello everyone,

I am planning to relocate to Berlin by the end of this year. Before diving into serious long-term contracting, I would like to explore more short-term (maybe sublet) options...I was wondering if there's any reddit community for that. I remember there was a facebook group, but I deleted my fb account years ago:( Any help, appreciated. Thanks!

yeah the existing reply is right about wg-gesucht being the best bet for zwischenmiete, but also check out ebay kleinanzeigen - filter by "befristet" or "möbliert" and you'll find tons of short term stuff from people who just need someone for a few months. fb groups were the goldmine but since you deleted it, telegram groups like "berlin housing & sublets" are pretty solid, just expect to message within 5 minutes of a post going up. if you're open to a bit of a commute, look outside the ringbahn for cheaper sublets that don't vanish as fast

honestly the trick with berlin short term is timing more than platform. posts go up on wg-gesucht and ebay kleinanzeigen around 8-10am and 6-8pm weekdays when people are at their desks bored. outside those windows you're just scrolling ghosts. also if you find something in neukölln or xberg that's "2 months, 800 warm, möbliert" and it's been up 20 minutes, you're already too late

r/berlinhousing is the main one but tbh it moves fast and gets flooded fast. also check out wg-gesucht.de for short term sublets, filter by "zwischenmiete" - most people posting there are just looking for a few months cover while they travel or something. the telegram groups are more active than reddit for this honestly, search "berlin sublet" or "berlin wg" once ur in the app

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
