Is there any way to still enter the Berlin Marathon?

Currently been training for NYC but watching a cousin run it so I'll be in Berlin. Wondering if there's any way of joining the race this late in time? Official registration closed months ago, but charity spots sometimes open up again closer to race day if a team didn't fill their quota. Check the official marathon charity partners page directly, you might find a last minute slot with a minimum fundraising commitment around 500 euro. The alternative is just spectating from a good spot like the corner of Kottbusser Damm and Hasenheide around kilometer 30, the crowd energy there is genuinely incredible and you'll see your cousin twice on that loop.

If you're already in Berlin and don't mind a slightly different route, check the "Insellauf" on the same weekend. It's a half marathon on an island in the Spree, starts near Treptower Park, and you can often register up to the day before. The vibe is way more relaxed than the main marathon, and you'll still get a medal and a proper chip time. Just be aware it sells out by Friday if you wait too long.

oh for crying out loud. people really think they can just waltz into the Berlin Marathon a week before. no. you cannot. unless you have a bib from someone who drops out and even then the transfer rules are a nightmare and basically not allowed. your best bet is to just watch from

Best tattoo artist in town?

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
