When we got there it was surrounded with fences. We really wanted to go to the flea market this Sunday, but I can't find anything about it being closed. Does anyone know more about this?

the construction is just on the mauerpark side, the flea market has actually been operating from the gleisdreieck area near the ampelmann shop for a while now. it's a bit smaller but still has the same vibe. if you want the full experience though, head to the raw flea market near warschauer str, it's way bigger and has better vintage stuff in my opinion

nah it's not closed permanently, they're just doing construction on the U-bahn line underneath. the flea market should be back to normal by sunday, they usually set up on the other side of the park near the schwedter straße entrance while the work is happening. worst case you can walk over to arkonaplatz for a smaller but good flea market, it's like 10 minutes away

You probably saw the fences around the main field near Eberswalder Straße. The flea market is still running but they moved it to the section along Bernauer Straße, right where the Berlin Wall memorial is. It's a bit more cramped but actually gives you a nice view of the original wall segments while you browse. If it feels too packed, the RAW flea market near Warschauer is about 15 minutes by U-Bahn and has better vinyl and vintage camera stalls in my experience.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
