How to deal with a large group of Roma living in a hotel next door trashing the neighborhood?

There is a hotel next door which hosts many, many Roma folk from Poland. I have no proof, but because they have large number of kids, i believe they are rotating here to beg. Child begs, an adult is somewhere around the corner and collects money.

They spend their time outside. We have police and firefighters here almost daily. Stolen bicycles, loudness, etc. Every time I step out of the apartment building I smell piss. Sometimes they shit in front of the building as well.

I see sub 10 years old genitals often, which I don't like. Girls just squat naked on the pavement and pee. Boys pee on the walls.

Trash is everywhere, there is a well lever that pumps out water - they use it for fun and baths.

Otherwise they run around with no shoes on.

Please understand that this would be a really nice place to live at. Everyone here is respectful and somewhat quiet. They are ruining it and I don't think all dozens of them have money on hotels and cars just by sitting on the ground all day. Something illegal is going on.

Police come, take stolen bicycles back and I don't know what else they deal with. I call them when they are honking their cars in the night, they don't come. I tell them not to let their kids piss on our building and they just mock me.

honestly this sucks and i get why you're frustrated. schöneberg is usually pretty chill but that hotel has been a known issue for a while. the bezirksamt in tempelhof-schöneberg has an ordnungsamt that handles public nuisance complaints - you can file a report online about the trash and public urination specifically. they're usually more responsive than the police for stuff like this.

also worth talking to your hausverwaltung about the hotel management. sometimes applying pressure through the landlord works better than dealing with the cops. the hotel is probably violating some hygiene regulations if they're letting people use the well like that.

fwiw the polizei berlin has a "gefährderansprache" option where they can formally warn the hotel owner about liability for the behavior of their guests. might be worth mentioning that term when you call.

yeah the police not showing for noise complaints is standard berlin unfortunately. have you tried the berliner polizei online anzeige for the thefts? you can file it digitally and they have to respond. also the bezirksamt has a spezialteam for ordnungsamt issues with hotels like this, they did a big thing on hauptstraße last year. might be worth emailing the hotel directly with cc to the bezirksbürgermeister, that usually gets management to act faster than just calling. the well thing is a legit gesundheitsamt violation if you want to escalate

ngl you should document everything with photos and dates especially the kids being naked and the public shitting. that's a legit jugendamt situation if any of those kids are in danger and they can put pressure on the hotel. the hotel itself probably doesn't want that kind of attention either. also check if the hotel has a proper lizenz for long-term housing on berlin.de, some of these places skirt gewerberecht regulations by calling it a hotel when it's basically a wohnheim. if they're not zoned for that the bezirksamt can shut them down a lot faster than dealing with individual complaints.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
